Watermelon Summer Fruit Plate from Goldhawk Pottery (yes, here’s hoping summer gets here soon!!)
Special Request
I was asked by the owner of the shop where I am selling some work to make this type of dipping dish, as she sells some in glass. After one unsuccessful attempt here is the almost finished product, and I’m so happy! I haven’t seen anything like this elsewhere so I’m just going to make more and see if I can establish my own little niche. What do you think?
Miraculous Tapas Plates (in progress)
Its always the little things that make me super happy. I saw a demo from LaPella Pottery (click on photo to get it) about how to make these little plates. I’m still learning a few tricks for using my homemade slab roller (which you can see the roller off to the side) so this just blew me away. So I found some foam and already had a few pieces of wood - all of which is in the photo. Try it!! I will be making lots of these. When finished I’ll make some tapas to show them off…
Slab Platter in progress
This is my second or third attempt and I think this one will be OK. I have had to go out of town for days at a time so previous attempts dried and cracked. For this one, I took an existing platter to create a mold and then used a texture tool to press into the edges. The single line or ridge running across the width of the platter may be a happy mistake - when I was rolling the slab, the canvas underneath bunched up to create a fold. This is almost done as I’m not sure that I will add a foot to it because it is already so dry. But I can’t fire it until I get the new kiln so stay tuned for hopefully something beautiful!
Three Running Mice
Here’s a close up of the little mice plate that I pulled out of the kiln the other day (see previous photos to see a peek in the kiln as it was coming out!) I’ve got a lot of photo work to do but was so happy with this. I love to paint and working with glazes is a LOT harder than working with paint (this looks almost like a charcoal drawing). These mice were inspired by the children’s book The Tailor of Gloucester, a classic. It’ll be for sale soon.
